DNS (Domain Name Service)
All devices on the Internet communicate with each other using IP addresses. IP addresses are not easy to remember in and not practical to enter in a browser to access a website or device.
To resolve this problem, domain names i.e. (domainname.com) are used instead of an IP address to access a website or device.
DNS is service that translates domain names to IP address so you can use the domain name instead of the IP address to access a website. When you enter (domainname.com) in your browser DNS will do a lookup and translate to the IP address so you can access your desired site. DNS is commonly used for your daily tasks such as sending emails or when you access a website. It can also be used to access internal resources such as servers and printers.
You can think of DNS as you phone contacts. Instead of inputting your callers phone number you just click on your phone contact.
Since DNS is a necessary protocol to do your daily work, its used by virtually all malware to inject ransonware on your computer. We recommend Cisco Umbrella to help prevent these attacks. To learn more about
